
George Yendewa, MD, MPH
Rustbelt CFAR Role: Clinical Core Co-DirectorGeorge Yendewa, MD, MPH&TM is an Assistant Professor of Medicine in the Division of Infectious Diseases and HIV Medicine at Case Western Reserve University. He graduated with his MD from the First Faculty of Medicine at Charles University in Prague, Czech Republic. He completed his residency in internal medicine at New York Medical College/Brookdale University Hospital and a combined clinical and research fellowship in infectious diseases and HIV medicine at Case Western Reserve University. Dr. Yendewa earned his MPH in Tropical Medicine from Tulane University and is pursuing his DrPH (Doctor of Public Health) degree in implementation science at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health.
Dr. Yendewa is passionate about global health, graduate medical education and research capacity building in low- and middle-income countries. His academic and research interests have centered on HIV molecular epidemiology and drug resistance, clinical consequences of HIV coinfection with endemic and emerging viruses (Hepatitis B virus, Ebola virus and SARS-CoV-2), and the socio-cultural and economic determinants of HIV acquisition and outcomes in West Africa (Sierra Leone and Liberia) and the United States. For his research work, he has received the Roe Green Scholar Award in Global Health (2017-2020) and the Faculty Development Award (2018) at Case Western Reserve University. He serves on the advisory board of the Andrew B. Kaufman World Medicine Pathway at Case Western Reserve University and as an internal board member of the Roe Green Center for Travel Medicine and Global Health at University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center.
